Madder Silk Ties
"Nothing says Fall like an ancient madder silk tie. The subdued colors and the texture of the silk work perfectly with a tweed jacket and a pair of moleskin trousers. I’ve opted to wear this tie with a classic English tattersall shirt but it would look good with a blue end-on-end or an Oxford button down. Could not be more pleased." - David M.
Our madder silk ties have the soft, matte finish and deep, muted colors that made ancient madder a menswear classic. Each tie is made from heavy-weight 32-momme madder schappe silk, then printed, cut and sewn by hand along the shores of Lake Como.
The printed designs come in more than 20 colors, from navy, sage and Venetian blue to barn red, amber yellow, rust and plum. Madder ties are made in small quantities, so many designs are limited editions.
How Our Madder Silk Ties Are Made
-
Madder schappe silk: Schappe silk is spun from cocoons the silk moth has left naturally. The fabric is dyed first, then printed, then given its madder finish, which creates the matte surface madder ties are known for.
-
3-fold construction:Each tie is folded three times around a pure wool lining and self-tipped with the same silk, so it keeps its shape and ties a clean, balanced knot.
-
Two lengths:Standard ties measure about 3.25" x 58.5" and suit most men up to 6'2". Extra-long ties measure about 3.38" x 62.5" for taller men.
"In terms of Fall weather fashions, I go for a rustic look that typically includes earth colors. This tie really appealed to me because of its beige background and soft earth colors. Tied in a four-in-hand double wrap knot it hangs beautifully and has just the right amount of subtle “pop” to draw attention. Another compliment magnet!"
